Guardians of the Golden Shears
The special collection includes various items chronicling the history of the Guardians of the Golden Shears.
For more than 75 years, Texas Wesleyan has recognized outstanding students, faculty and staff members with the Golden Shears award. The Guardians of the Golden Shears began when The Rambler, Texas Wesleyan’s student-run newspaper, wanted to highlight students who excelled in academics, possessed leadership skills and were active on campus.
Upon being inducted into the Guardians of the Golden Shears, which is a student-led and student-nominated organization, each member receives a blue and gold pin. On the pin is the letter “R” and the number “38,” with a pair of golden sheep shears to symbolize the University’s mascot, the ram.
