Jon H. Fleming

1978-1984

Jon H. Fleming was the 14th president of Texas Wesleyan University and served as president from 1978-1984. His inauguration was held on April 20 1979 and John B. Connally was the keynote speaker. Connally was the 39th govenor of Texas and the 61st United States Secretary of Treasury under Richard Nixon. 

Born in Dallas, Fleming received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Southern Methodist University and his Doctorate from The School of Theology at Claremont (California). Prior to his presidency at Texas Wesleyan University, Fleming was Assistant to the Dean and Director of Development of The University of Texas Medical School at Houston and later as Director of Development of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.  From 1976 to 1978 he was Professor of Psychology and Human Deveopment and Executive Vice President of Texas Woman's University. 

Inuagural events for Fleming included the inaugural convocation, a dialogue event between Jon H. Fleming and Durwood Fleming (President of Southwestern University) on education for the 80s, a barbecue with speaker, John R. Hubbard (President of the University of Southern California), and an inaugural concert.
